Colors and Shapes Image Box
Colors and Shapes Image Box ! This tummy time activity uses just paper, a marker, a gallon bag, tape and a box to create the perfect prop for your own image cards like these, to introduce colors to your baby. Infants need lots of tummy time and side-lying time, and with these images you can hold their attention and speak to them about colors (“The square is blue, the circle is red”). Babies start to recognize a wider range of colors around two months, it is fun to show them bright colors like these and try to spot when they begin to really hold their gaze!
Grab any used box, like an eight-pack soda can box, and tape up any portions that were opened. Wrap it in white paper and tape. This part isn’t necessary but it can cut down on distraction by hiding logos.
Cut several sheets white paper in half.
Cut a gallon bag roughly in half (to match the size of the pieces of paper.
Tape the gallon bag to the front of the box so it forms a pocket with the open side up (tape the sides of the bag to the sides of the box).
Using colorful markers, draw shapes on the pieces of paper.
Slide the cards into the pocket formed by the bag, and voila! You have a hands-free image box for tummy time and side-lying time! If baby can’t quite hold his head up yet, you can slide the cards into the bag and lay them on the floor in front of him, then tape the bag to the box once he can lift his head to see them.
