DIY Colorful Infant Mobile
Colorful DIY infant mobile! High contrast images keep newborns’ attention and are great for their development, and when they begin to see color they love bright tones. This mobile is really for infants who aren’t grabbing things yet, it is perfect for over a newborn’s changing table or for using while supervised (not safe for over a crib).
This is a quick project and uses a lid of an oats container (or cardboard), clear cord or fishing line, paper, and pom poms. You will also need a black marker, tape, a pin, and scissors.
Trace the lid onto paper and draw a target with a black marker, cut out the circle and tape it on the inside of the lid. Poke holes through the cardboard and paper around the edge, space them evenly to match your number of pom poms.
Using a clove hitch (you can find out how to tie a clove hitch on YouTube if you don’t know), tie the poms poms onto separate pieces of cord, cut them all the same length. Thread the cord through the holes you made in the lid, and cut the cord in progressively smaller lengths to make the pom poms spiral as shown, and tie a knot large enough that the cord won’t pull through for each cord.
Make a hole in the middle and thread a longer piece of cord through and tie off at the bottom, thread two more long cords through either two of the holes you have already made or two new holes and tie off, this is to keep the mobile from tipping when it hangs. Pull the three cords together and tie a loop at the end. Done!
Remember this is only to be used supervised, and should be kept out of reach of babies who are grabbing, like my little one here:
