Exploration Container

Exploration container! This is a super simple idea that will entertain baby for a long time, and it is also great for fostering independence and learning! Investigation is essential for learning!

Just find a soft basket or container like Tupperware and fill it with random objects (that are safe for baby). I like using silicone kitchen tools and small toys and balls. You can even create a theme of objects or pick objects of a certain color.

Baby can root around and dump things out, and you can refill if you want. Let baby explore on her own, she will love to experience different textures, weights, and sizes of objects. If baby doesn’t seem interested at first try sitting with her and talking about each object in the container, you can show her how to pick up and examine each object.

This activity is great for babies who are learning to sit or can sit already, but it is an activity that can be revisited forever! As your child gets older just use different objects, household objects are the most fun because they are items your child probably hasn’t seen or investigated before. If you have two children, a special basket with a closing lid and their favorite items in it can be an amazing tool for occupying your first child while you are feeding baby!
