Sensory Smell Jars
Sensory Smell Jars! Introduce baby to new aromas with these easy DIY smell jars. Sensory play stimulates baby’s senses and helps baby learn and explore. Baby can explore smell and also shake and stack the containers, depending on what you fill them with.
Take several small containers with soft plastic lids, I used toothpick containers, and make small holes in the lids using a pin, needle, toothpick or similar. Fill the containers with aromatic herbs, foods, flowers, etc. I used lemon zest and cinnamon (the cinnamon could be shaken out through the lid so we didn’t play with that one for very long). Some other ideas include mint, coffee beans, sage, rosemary, basil, rose petals, lavender, or you can do what @inspired_little_learners did and put drops of essential oils or extract on cotton balls (so smart!!). The containers don’t have to be clear, it might be fun to experiment with some clear and some opaque so some are like mystery smell jars!
What is your favorite scent? I love lemon zest so I liked incorporating it!
