Sensory Sound Play
Sensory Sound Play🎵 Sensory play is essentially a fancy name for play that engages the senses! It is an important way for babies and children to learn—sensory play enhances memory, develops problem-solving, builds neural connections, supports language development, and much more. 🥳Playing with sound is a great way to engage baby and promote learning (and fun)! I have listed some ideas for engaging baby with sound below. Singing, rhymes, and talking to or with your little are also vital and wonderful!
0 - 4 mo Place dice, beads, or dry beans in a water bottle and close the bottle. 🎲 Tie a piece of string around the throat of the bottle and hang the bottle from baby’s play gym so that the bottle hangs at baby’s feet (or hold it over baby’s feet). When baby kicks, she will hear the contents rattle and begin to understand her movement is causing the noise!
5 - 8 mo It is almost Easter and Easter eggs are great for play! 🐣 Fill the eggs halfway with dried beans, beads, or rice and tape the eggs securely. Put the eggs in a small basket for baby to explore! Show baby how he can roll the eggs to make noise as well!
9 - 12 mo It’s time to gather up your jewelry for some fun sensory play! 🎼 Bangle bracelets (with any charms removed) are fun for baby to hit together, put on her wrists, or stack on a paper towel roll holder.
13 - 18 mo Gather some metal spoons 🥄 and let your little start a spoon band! Add some extra learning by seeing if he can repeat what you do. Bang on different containers in different orders and see if baby can repeat. Click the spoons together and let baby follow!
