This is a great baby play hack for standing babies! Standing to grab the foam pieces helps with learning balance and grabbing develops fine motor skills, and this activity kept Norah’s attention for a while!

I used an inexpensive foam play mat and popped out some of the pieces (you can also use foam shapes that come in a pack, like Munchkin bath letters and numbers - see below). I wet the backs with a little water and stuck them to the window.

If you have an older baby or toddler they can use a foam paint brush or a shallow dish of water to wet the pieces themselves. My 9 month old loved standing to remove the pieces, and an older baby will like to put them back on as well! With a toddler you can add an extra learning element by talking about the letters, numbers, or shapes, and sorting them by type or color. Try making boxes with painters tape and labeling them by color or object type, then your toddler can try to stick the correct foam letters into the correct box.

As a variation for younger babies, you can do the same thing but with a mirror on the floor, baby will still have the challenge of unsticking the foam shapes from the mirror! If baby needs sitting practice you can attach the mirror to the wall at a height baby can reach, then have her lean forward to remove the foam pieces, this is great stability practice!
